The Rising Stars Invitational
The Rising Stars Invitational is the NBA’s premier youth development tournament in the Asia-Pacific region, bringing together the most promising young basketball talent to compete on an international stage in Singapore. More than a championship, the tournament is designed to identify, develop and inspire the next generation of elite athletes - combining high-performance competition with cultural exchange, mentorship and global exposure.
Produced in collaboration with NBA Asia, the project followed ten rising athletes from across the RSI program as they prepared for the tournament - capturing not just their performance, but the personal stories that shape who they are as players and people.
Filmed across six countries - Australia, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, China and Korea - the series traces a truly international pathway. Training sessions, home environments, travel days and moments of pressure all form part of the narrative, revealing the emotional weight of chasing opportunity on a global stage.
At its core, Level Up is about ambition without shortcuts. It’s a portrait of youth basketball seen through the lens of resilience, sacrifice and growth and a reminder that the road to elite sport is rarely linear.

A Global Journey
Produced in collaboration with NBA Asia, Level Up evolved into a 15-part mini-documentary series that followed two athletes from each of six countries - Australia, Japan, Singapore, the Philippines, China and Korea - as they prepared for the Rising Stars Invitational. Filmed across multiple countries, cities, towns and training environments, the series traces a truly international journey, capturing the diversity of pathways that lead young athletes to the same destination.
We travelled to the players’ hometowns to understand their everyday lives - their families, schools, communities and the environments that shaped their relationship with basketball. These moments grounded the series in reality, revealing the sacrifices, support systems and personal motivations that sit behind elite performance. By filming across home environments, training facilities and travel days, Level Up presents youth basketball as a global pursuit, united by ambition but shaped by culture and circumstance.

Beyond the Court
The series was structured across three episodes per country, mirroring the natural arc of an athlete’s journey: where they come from, how they train, and what it feels like to compete on an international stage. The first episode explored backstory - family life, early influences and the moment basketball became a serious pursuit. The second focused on training environments, documenting the daily hustle of school programs, coaches and teammates who help shape each athlete’s development. The final episode followed the teams in Singapore, as the Rising Stars Invitational unfolded in real time.
Once the tournament began, the series captured both the intensity of competition and the quieter moments in between - locker room talks, recovery sessions, cultural experiences and off-court interactions that form lasting memories. Across a week of closely contested matches, we witnessed the emotional highs and lows of elite youth sport, culminating in Yongsan High School of Korea and Kyoto Seika of Japan being crowned the inaugural RSI champions.
Level Up ultimately looks beyond results, offering an intimate portrait of ambition, resilience and growth.
