What does it mean to be an Australian in the NBA?

Every project starts with a question. For this campaign, it was a simple one - but not an easy one to answer:

What does it mean to be Australian in the NBA today?

Australian basketball has reached a moment where it no longer feels like an exception on the global stage. It’s part of the fabric. As a filmmaker who’s spent years working within elite sport, this felt like the right time to pause, reflect, and tell a story that went deeper than chase down blocks and tomahawk dunks.

For the launch of the NBA Australia 2025 Season, we wanted to create something grounded. Something human. A film that acknowledged how far Australian basketball has come - and where it’s heading next.

A New Generation, Built on What Came Before

Australian basketball is currently in one of its strongest eras.

Players like Josh Giddey, Dyson Daniels, and Josh Green are continuing to shape the perception of Australians in the NBA - not just as role players, but as leaders and difference-makers.

This campaign wasn’t about spotlighting one generation over another. It was about acknowledging transition. About recognising that today’s success is built on the shoulders of those who came before.

Why This Story Matters

For me, this project captured something essential about Australian basketball right now.

It’s not just about who’s entering the NBA - it’s also about how those who came before are redefining themselves beyond it. The league continues to evolve, but so do the people shaped by it.

The NBA Australia 2025 Season campaign became a way to explore both trajectories at once:

one generation looking forward beyond the game and another stepping into it with belief.
